Last week Amazon said it would open a third fulfillment center in California. This week, the retailer said it would open three new Amazon fulfillment centers in Texas.

The investment will create more than 1,000 jobs, official said on Wednesday. Facilities will be located in Coppell and Haslet, two cities near Dallas, and in Schertz, a city northeast of San Antonio. All of the fulfillment centers are expected to be at least 1 million square feet.

The Schertz and the Coppell buildings will house larger products, like TVs and barbecues, Amazon reports. Employees at the 1.1-million-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center in Haslet will fill orders of smaller products like books and DVDs.

Bob Golden, the mayor of Haslet, says the investment is the “the biggest economic development partnership” in the city’s history.

“The jobs and potential tax base that this development will bring to our community is a major milestone in our city’s growth,” he reports.

Amazon officials say they look forward to opening the centers, though they gave no potential open dates.

“We appreciate the state and local elected officials who have helped us make this exciting investment in the state of Texas,” notes Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North American fulfillment.

The Amazon fulfillment centers are part of a deal Amazon reached with the state of Texas last year that would give the retailer a pass on a $269 million tax bill it had from the state. As part of that deal, Amazon pledged to make capital investments in Texas of at least $200 million by 2016 and create thousands of jobs.
